Active Pixels 4 plans for future
August 27, 2008 · Posted in Uncategorized
Hello, dear readers. Active Pixels 3 and higher is using new undo engine from early AP3 project. This engine is very memory economy, but a very buggy. I think to use old undo engine from AP2. This engine will work faster, but it more memory expensive. It will be more stability work with undo/redo in Active Pixels 4.
And also i want to delete skins, and use absolutely standart inteface. It will improve loading speed and small down AP4 exe-file size in 2 times. What do you think?

I’ve checked it, and AP uses 69 mb of memory, i guess that is quite modest for a photo editor.
If it would be more, it would still be acceptable.
Personally i think loading times are a bit too high, not just the startup of AP, but also when using functions within AP.
This could also have to do with the fact that dotnet application have more overhead then C++ applications because of the framework, so tuning loading times + stability improvements, even on the expense of some more memory use, definitely has my vote.
Now i already testing Active Pixels 4 (but current version only have base functionality) and it loads in one moment. I think, that i can save this speed in future, because AP4 use new loading mechanism. It will load mometally and it will comfort even for simple preview image. This of course, if you have modern hdd and at least >= p4 processor. All versions of Active Pixels doesnt use NET, and you dont need framework.
This program is open source?!??
Why don’t you post it on sourceforge so many people can work on it?
Thanks
really cool software!
more interesting than using the holy photoshop!
i want to ask something as rotable canvas and more compatible with vista.
I have a question… In Active Pixels 4 is there something to make/edit animated gif?
And a magnetic selection tool?
This is important for me…
Good work!

john09 Thanks. It cant be opensource because some libraries is not GPL.
ilovedoom Thanks. to rotate canvas now only one instrument. wait AP 4 – it will not use skins and will be more compatible with vista.
dapa Thanks. To work with Ani-gif you need to create animation. This animation will represent each layer in you image as single frame. Also if you open Ani-Gif – Ap will load it as animation.
If you created animation, you can save it to Ani-Gif.
@admin, I not a lawyer but you could release parts of the code as open source and keep the parts that can’t be open source out of the picture.
3.05 is working fine for me. And I am trying to run it on a 1GB Vista machine (hope to have the money for an upgrade one of these days).
I just installed it, but it is a really nice looking program and I like the enhancement options. And you are giving it away? Wow. Thank you.
Was wondering, is there a “replace color” option based on taking a sample of pixels? I have an Autumn color photo but it was a Gray overcast day, and I wanted to “change the sky” to blue. What is the best way to do this?
I am a photo editor “newbie”
Again, thanks for your kindness in offering this program. Very cool
Please let me know of any other pixels later.
